In this panel, the experiences of Black communities in Latin America were presented and explored as it compares to those of the Black communities in the U.S. and the rest of the Diaspora.
The panel was made up of a group of black scholars from Colombia, Puerto Rico and the United States, who were able to enlighten the audience in topics like colorism and racial disparities that are still present in Latin American societies.

Road Map of the African Slavery in Latin America

In this inaugural event of the Afro-Latino Experience Initiative, Dr. Joseph Dorsey, a professor of History and African American Studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, gave a fantastic overview of the history of the African Diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Discussing topics all the way from forced migration (i.e. slavery) to current religious practices and economical situation of Black Latino communities, this event served as a great introduction and awareness aid for the Greater Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana community.
